How WhatsApp Business API pricing is calculated
Your WhatsApp message cost comes down to a simple formula:
(Messages per category × Meta's rate) + provider markup + 18% GST
Three things drive the number:
- Message category. Meta charges different per-message rates for Marketing, Utility and Authentication messages — and Service replies are free within the 24-hour window.
- Provider markup. Meta's rate is the floor. Many providers add 10–30% on top, which the calculator lets you model with the markup slider.
- GST. An 18% GST applies on top in India.

What a typical WhatsApp bill looks like
Three examples at Meta's base rates (0% markup) plus 18% GST.
Small business
1,000 marketing + 3,000 utility / month
₹1,480/mo
in messaging, before your platform subscription.
Growing business
10,000 marketing + 10,000 utility + 2,000 authentication / month
₹12,000/mo
in messaging at Meta's base rates.
High volume
50,000 marketing + 50,000 utility / month
₹58,600/mo
at base rates — at a 25% markup the same volume jumps by over ₹14,600 a month.
That last example shows why the per-message rate matters far more than the plan price as you scale — a markup you barely notice at low volume becomes your biggest cost at high volume.
What's not included in the estimate
- Service replies are free. Any reply you send within the 24-hour customer service window costs nothing, so they're not counted here.
- Your platform subscription is separate. This calculator estimates Meta's message charges (plus markup and GST). Your provider's monthly plan fee is on top — see Splashify Pro's pricing for plans from ₹899/month.
How to lower your estimate
A few levers reduce your bill quickly:
- Use utility templates instead of marketing wherever a message is genuinely transactional — utility is far cheaper.
- Lean on the free service window — reply to customers within 24 hours at no cost.
- Run Click-to-WhatsApp ads to unlock a 72-hour free messaging window.
- Choose a provider with low or no markup — at volume, this is the single biggest saving.
